Helen Olayinka Ogunsuyi (nee Olofingboyegun) was born in the late sixties to the Family of Chief and Mrs. Oluwafemi Olofingboyegun both from Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Areas of Ondo State, Nigeria She had her elementary and Secondary Schools education at Methodist Primary School, Akure and St. Louis Girls Grammar School, Akure respectively. Between 1987 and 1991, she obtained her first degree in Pure and Applied Chemistry with Second Class Upper Division from the then Ondo State University, Ado -Ekiti (OSUA), now Ekiti State University (EKSU), Nigeria. Shortly after her National Service, she secured a teaching appointment with Ondo State Civil Service Commission as a Teacher between1992-1996. She was gainfully employed as a Graduate Assistant by the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) where she acquired her Master and Ph. D Degrees in Analytical Chemistry.

Ogunsuyi rose through ranks within the workforce of the University to attain the highest peak of her career as a Professor of Fuel and Analytical Chemistry in 2016. Currently,her research specialty embraces investigations on conventional and renewable energy options.

Ogunsuyi is amember and executive member of diverseProfessional bodies, Movement, Council and Organizations both within and outside Nigeria. She is a bonafide member of Institute of Chartered Chemist of Nigeria (ICCON), Member of Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World, Trieste Italy,Member of Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World both at National and Local Chapters, Member of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), United Kingdom. She is a Professional Member of the African Scientific Institute (ASI); Fellow of African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), Member of Chemical Society of Nigeria, Country-Ambassador of Female Wave of Change (FWoC) global movement for South-Western Nigeria, Parish President of Catholic Women Organization, First Female President of Catholic Laity Council of Ondo Diocese, Nigeria.

Ogunsuyi has served in several capacities within and outside her locality where she has always distinguished herself as a dependable mentor, amiable leader, altruistic benefactor and a dynamic facilitator. Within and outside the Church, she exhibits her leadership values all-through with humility and selflessness. As an ardent Catholic-Christian woman, she demonstrates Christian virtues worthy of emulation through her unreserved zeal for God and simplicity. In recognition of her diligence, doggedness and unassuming disposition, Helen Ogunsuyi has been recognized, commended and honoured with several distinguished awards of excellence by different bodies, which are, but not limited to:

  • Award of Recognition for Excellent Performance at the 2017 Research Output presentation forum - by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD)
  • Award of Recognition for Excellent Presentation and Showcase of Research Output at the 2016 Regional Progress Monitoring Forum organized by AWARD
  • Award of Excellence for outstanding performance as the Chairman of Alumni Home Coming Committee, School of Sciences, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria
  • Distinguished Award of Excellence for Exemplary Leadership – by the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Nigeria
  • National Award of Distinction and Recognition- by the National Council of Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Nigeria.
  • Award of Excellence for Outstanding Performance by Students’ Chemical Society of Nigeria, FUTA Chapter
  • Award of Fellowship and Professional Contributions to Administrative Matters- by West African Society for Communication and Administration.

Due to her charismatic and trusted leadership skill, she has and continuedto be entrusted with duties and positionof responsibilities within and outside her University. She once served as an Associate and Acting Directors of Centre for Gender Issues in Science and Technology, (CEGIST) FUTA, Nigeria. She is a member of the University Senate since 2012 to date. She had competently chaired many committees, actively involved in several Panels and Boards within and outside the university community.

Prof. Helen Ogunsuyi has authored and co-authored over 30 scientific papers published both at local and international referred journals.She has supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate research projects. She is well travelled and had attended several seminars, training workshops, symposia and conferences within Nigeria and in numerous International communities such as United States of America, Dubai Emirates, China, India, Paris, Bangladesh, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia and South Africa among others.

As a motivational speaker, she engages in regular public engagements, where she presents inspiring write-ups orally, also incolumns of magazines and social platforms. Currently, she is the Editor-in-Chief of Laity Voice and Noble Mary Magazines, the Magazines of Ondo Diocesan Laity Council and Ondo Diocesan Catholic Women Organization respectively.

Helen is the initiator and driver of the Laity Training and Empowerment Project of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Oba-Ile, Ondo State, Nigeria. This Project aims at aiding the poor and indigent parishioners in building their faith through physical and spiritual development.

Prof. (Mrs.) H.O. Ogunsuyi who currently serves as the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship (CENT) FUTA, is a mother, wife, sister, dependable lecturer and mentor to a lot of people that had gone through her tutelage. She is happily married and blessed with God-fearing children.
